1 Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, according to the a promise of life that is in Christ Jesus,
2 to Timothy, a dearly b beloved son: Grace, mercy, and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord.
3 I thank God whom I serve with a pure conscience as my c forefathers did, that without ceasing I remember you in my prayers night and day,
4 greatly desiring to see you, being mindful of your tears, so that I may be filled with joy,
5 when I call to remembrance d the genuine faith that is in you, which dwelt first in your grandmother Lois and e your mother Eunice, and I am persuaded that it is in you also.
6 Therefore, I remind you that you f stir up the gift of God that is in you by the laying on of my hands.
7 For g God has not given us a spirit of fear, h but of power and of love and of a sound mind.
8 i Therefore, do not be ashamed of j the testimony of our Lord, nor of me k His prisoner. But share with me in the afflictions of the gospel according to the power of God,
9 who has saved us and called us with a holy calling, l not according to our works, but m according to His own purpose and grace that was given to us in Christ Jesus n before time began,
10 but o has now been revealed by the appearing of our Savior Christ Jesus, who has abolished death and has brought life and immortality to light through the gospel.
11 p To this gospel I am appointed a preacher and an apostle and a teacher.
12 For this reason I also suffer these things. Nevertheless, I am not ashamed, q for I know whom I have believed and am persuaded that He is able to keep what I have committed to Him until that day.
13 r Hold fast s the pattern of t sound words that you have heard from me, in faith and love that is in Christ Jesus.
14 The good thing that was committed to you, keep by the Holy Spirit who dwells in us.
15 This you know, that all those who are in Asia turned away from me, of whom are Phygelus and Hermogenes.
16 The Lord grant mercy to the u house of Onesiphorus, for he often refreshed me and was not ashamed of my chains.
17 But when he was in Rome, he eagerly sought me out and found me.
18 The Lord v grant to him that he may find mercy from the Lord w in that day. You know very well how many things he x ministered to me at Ephesus.

1 You therefore, a my son, b be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.
2 And the things that you have heard from me among many witnesses, the same commit to faithful men who will be able to teach others also.
3 You therefore c endure hardship d as a good soldier of Christ Jesus.
4 e No man engaged in warfare entangles himself with the affairs of this life, so that he may please him who enlisted him as a soldier.
5 And f if a man competes as an athlete, he is not crowned unless he competes lawfully.
6 The laboring farmer must be the first to partake of the fruits.
7 Consider what I say, for the Lord will g give you understanding in all things.
8 Remember that Jesus Christ h of the seed of David i was raised from the dead j according to my gospel,
9 k for which I suffer hardship even as an evildoer l unto bonds. m But the word of God is not bound.
10 Therefore, n I endure all things for the elects’ sake, o that they may also obtain the salvation that is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory.
11 This is a faithful saying: For p if we died with Him, we will also live with Him.
12 q If we suffer, we will also reign with Him. r If we deny Him, He will also deny us.
13 If we are faithless, He remains faithful. He s cannot deny Himself.
14 Remind them of these things, t charging them before the Lord that they do not strive about words to no profit, to the ruin of the hearers.
15 u Be diligent to present yourself approved to God as a workman who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
16 But avoid profane and empty babblings, for they will increase to more ungodliness.
17 And their word will spread like gangrene. Among them are v Hymenaeus and Philetus,
18 who concerning the truth have strayed, w saying that the resurrection is already past. And they overthrow the faith of some.
19 Nevertheless, x the firm foundation of God stands, having this seal, “The Lord y knows those who are His.” And, “Let everyone who names the name of the Lord depart from iniquity.”
20 But in a great house there are not only z vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth, and some to honor and some to dishonor.
21 Therefore, if a man cleanses himself from these, he will be a vessel to honor, sanctified and useful for the Master, a prepared for every good work.
22 b Flee also youthful lusts. But pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart.
23 But avoid foolish and unlearned questions, knowing that they generate strife.
24 And c the servant of the Lord must not quarrel, but be gentle to all, d able to teach, e patient,
25 f in meekness instructing those who oppose themselves, g if God perhaps will grant them repentance h leading to a full knowledge of the truth,
26 and that they may come to their senses i out of the snare of the devil, having been held captive by him to do his will.

1 Know this also, that a in the last days perilous times will come.
2 For men will be lovers of themselves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,
3 unloving, irreconcilable, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, haters of good,
4 b treacherous, reckless, conceited, lovers of pleasures rather than lovers of God,
5 c having a form of godliness, but d denying the power thereof. And e from such people turn away.
6 For f of these are those who creep into houses and lead captive gullible women weighed down with sins, led away with various lusts,
7 always learning and never able g to come to the knowledge of the truth.
8 h Now as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, so do these also resist the truth—i men of corrupt minds, j rejected concerning the faith.
9 But they will proceed no further, for their folly will be manifested to all men k as theirs also was.
10 l But you have fully known my teaching, manner of life, purpose, faith, longsuffering, love, patience,
11 persecutions, afflictions, which came to me m at Antioch, n at Iconium, and o at Lystra—what persecutions I endured. But p out of them all the Lord delivered me.
12 Yes, and q all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution.
13 r But evil men and impostors will grow worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived.
14 But you s continue in the things that you have learned and have been assured of, knowing from whom you have learned them,
15 and that from a child you have known t the Holy Scriptures that are able to make you wise unto salvation through faith that is in Christ Jesus.
16 u All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, v and is profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness,
17 so w that the man of God may be complete, x thoroughly equipped for every good work.

1 I a charge you before God and the Lord Jesus Christ, b who will judge the living and the dead by His appearing and His kingdom.
2 Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. c Reprove, d rebuke, e exhort with all longsuffering and teaching.
3 f For the time will come when they will not endure g sound teaching. h But to suit their itching ears, they will surround themselves with teachers who will agree with their own desires.
4 And they will turn away their ears from the truth and i will be turned to fables.
5 But you watch in all things. j Endure afflictions. Do the work of k an evangelist. Fulfill your ministry.
6 For l I am already being poured out as a drink offering, and the time of m my departure is at hand.
7 n I have fought the good fight. I have finished my course. I have kept the faith.
8 Finally, there is laid up for me o a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous p judge, will give me q at that day, and not only to me, but also to all those who have loved His appearing.
9 Be diligent to come to me soon,
10 for r Demas has forsaken me, s having loved this present world, and has departed to Thessalonica; Crescens to Galatia, Titus to Dalmatia.
11 Only Luke is with me. Get t Mark and bring him with you, for he is profitable to me for the ministry.

14 v Alexander the coppersmith did me much evil. May the Lord reward him according to his works.
15 You also must be on guard against him, for he has greatly opposed our words.
16 At my first defense no one stood with me, but all forsook me. w May it not be counted against them.
17 x But the Lord stood with me and strengthened me, y so that through me the preaching might be fully accomplished, and that all the Gentiles might hear. And I was delivered z out of the mouth of the lion.
18 a And the Lord will deliver me from every evil work, and will preserve me unto His heavenly kingdom. b To Him be glory forever and ever. Amen.
19 Salute c Prisca and Aquila, and the household of d Onesiphorus.
20 e Erastus remained at Corinth, but f Trophimus I have left at Miletus sick.
21 Make every effort to come before winter. Eubulus greets you, and Pudens, and Linus, and Claudia, and all the brethren.
22 The Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit. Grace be with you. Amen.
